We are grateful for the dedication and determination of the 2016-2017 AmeriCorps Volunteer Teachers:  Jamie Pickup and Samantha Kay (seated) with James Burbank and Erynn Jones (standing).

AmeriCorps Volunteers 2016-17
In order to accommodate the extended school day, Our Sisters' School originally relied solely on AmeriCorps volunteer teachers. In 2012 a new staffing model was introduced. Four of the eight AmeriCorps volunteer teachers were replaced with four experienced teachers, and the schedule was redesigned taking into consideration the teaching assignments and division of duties and roles for all teaching staff. Leadership roles were defined among the experienced teachers and more appropriate professional development and guidance are being provided for all.

The AmeriCorps Program: engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country.

Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 900,000 AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.2 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve.
