Dr. Carolyn Roberts
Science Chair and Teacher for Grades 5 & 6
Dr. Carolyn Roberts joined the OSS community in 2023 as the 5th & 6th grade science teacher and head of the Science Department. Her academic background is in earth and planetary science, remote sensing, glaciology, and volcanology. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University, and Ph.D and Master’s degrees from the University at Buffalo.
Carolyn strives to make science accessible to everyone and to foster each student’s innate curiosity. She developed her love for teaching while performing outreach activities during graduate school, and has been working in primary and secondary science education since 2021. She is eager to guide OSS students through the exciting and challenging waters of science.
Carolyn recently moved to New Bedford with her partner, cat, and dog. She enjoys moon- and stargazing, listening to live music, hiking, camping, reading, and creating geology-inspired art. She is exploring the world of gardening and is delighted that she will get to play and teach in the Outdoor Classroom at OSS.
